Your First Day

At Springwood High School

Starting a new school year can be a mix of excitement and nerves. Especially for those stepping into Springwood High School for the first time. To ensure a smooth transition for our new students, we have a welcoming and structured first day planned that will help everyone settle into their new classes and routines with ease.

Welcome Assembly For Year 7

The first day at Springwood High School kicks off with a special assembly for our Year 7 students. This is a great opportunity to meet some of the key figures at our school, including our principal and year-level coordinator, who will share valuable information about school life and what you can expect in the coming year. This is also a chance to get a feel for the school spirit and start your journey supported by our school values of 21st-century learning within a culture of care. We encourage you to listen, ask questions and most importantly, enjoy the beginning of your high school adventure.

House Groups are Formed

Following assembly, students will be moved into their House groups from Academia, Activist, Action and Art. These groups are not teams; they are a core part of our approach to education based on students’ passions, learning styles and future goals, which will help to define their Springwood High School experience.

Get to Know You Session in Care Class

Once all students are settled into their House Group, their new teachers will run some ‘get to know you’ activities within their main class group, also known as Care Class. Students will spend time with the classmates they’ll be seeing every day and enjoy the opportunity to share a little about themselves. These sessions are designed to build a sense of belonging and camaraderie from day one. Remember, everyone is in the same boat, so don’t be shy to share your interests and get to know your peers.

What to Bring

When it comes to what students need to bring on the first day, we like to keep it simple to help you settle in without any stress. All you need is a notebook for jotting down important information and either your lunch or some money to purchase food from our canteen – The Storm Café. This way, you can focus more on the experiences of the day and getting to know everyone.

Laptop Set Up

Lastly, we will provide dedicated time for laptop set up. At Springwood High School, we understand the importance of technology in today’s learning environment, and our IT department will meet with each student individually to ensure that their laptop is properly configured for school use. This will ensure that everyone is ready to dive into learning with all the necessary tools at their disposal.

The first day is just the beginning of an exciting high school journey at Springwood High School. Every staff member and student is here to support you, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Welcome to the family!
